For the Dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp dry yeast

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/2 cup warm water

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

For the Filling

  • 4 tbsp pizza sauce (store-bought or homemade)

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 1/2 cup chopped vegetables (like capsicum, onion, corn)

  • 4–5 sliced olives (optional)

  • A pinch of oregano

  • A pinch of chili flakes

How to Make Pizza Scrolls Step by Step

Step 1: Make the Dough

First, we will prepare the dough. Take a big bowl and add 2 cups of all-purpose flour. Add 1 teaspoon of dry yeast and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Mix everything. Then slowly add warm water little by little and keep mixing. Also, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Mix and knead the dough well for 5 to 8 minutes till it becomes soft and smooth. If it is too sticky, you can add a small amount of flour. Now cover the dough with a cloth and keep it in a warm place for about 1 hour. It will rise and become a little bigger.

Step 2: Roll the Dough

After 1 hour, check the dough. It should be soft and fluffy. Press it gently to release the air. Now take a rolling board or clean kitchen surface and spread some dry flour on it. Place the dough on the board and roll it out using a rolling pin. Try to make a rectangle shape, not too thick and not too thin. Around 1/4 inch thick is perfect.

Step 3: Add the Filling

Take 4 tablespoons of pizza sauce and spread it evenly over the rolled dough. Do not add too much, or the dough will become wet. Then sprinkle 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese all over the sauce. Add your chopped vegetables like onion, capsicum, or corn. You can also add olives or small pieces of cooked chicken if you like. Finally, sprinkle a pinch of oregano and chili flakes for extra flavor. Now your pizza is ready to be rolled.

Step 4: Roll and Cut

Start from one end of the rectangle and roll it slowly like a log. Roll it tightly but carefully so the filling does not fall out. Once you reach the end, press it slightly to seal. Now take a knife and cut the log into small, equal pieces, about 1 to 1.5 inches wide. You will get 10 to 12 scrolls from this.

Step 5: Bake the Scrolls

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) for 10 minutes. Take a baking tray and place a baking sheet or lightly grease it with oil. Place all the scrolls on the tray with the cut side facing up. Make sure there is space between each one so they don’t stick. You can brush a little milk or oil on top for a nice golden color. Place the tray in the oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes. Check after 15 minutes. The scrolls should look golden, and the cheese will be melted and bubbling. When done, take them out and let them cool for 5 minutes.

Tips to Make Them Better

You can use ready-made pizza dough if you are in a hurry. For the sauce, use tomato ketchup if you don’t have pizza sauce. Add your favorite toppings, but avoid very watery ones like fresh tomatoes or pineapple as they make the dough soggy. You can also use wheat flour instead of all-purpose flour if you want a healthier option.

These scrolls stay good in the fridge for 2–3 days. Just heat them in a pan or oven before eating again. You can also pack them in your child’s lunchbox or take them on a picnic. They taste good even when cold.

Why You Will Love Pizza Scrolls

Pizza scrolls are soft, cheesy, and full of flavor. Kids love the round shape and cheesy taste. You don’t need a lot of ingredients, and you don’t need to be a chef to make them. They are good for parties, picnics, snacks, and even breakfast. You can make them in small or large sizes.

These are also better than eating outside food as they are homemade and fresh. You can make them with your kids too. Rolling and cutting can be fun. These scrolls also do not make a mess while eating, so you can carry them easily in your bag.
